Brown leads Pat Canadians to Victory

Brown leads Pat Canadians to Victory

Luke Walters

The Regina Pat Canadians hosted the Saskatoon Blazers for a Sunday matinee at the Co-operators Centre.

The Blazers would get off to a 1-0 lead at the 1:12 mark of the opening frame as Raiden Zacharias would take a back door feed from Cohen Harris for the easy tap-in, and an early lead for the visitors.  Casey Brown would get Regina back in it at 8:57 as he beat Kabrud top shelf for his 16th on the year and a 1-1 tie midway through the first period.  Saskatoon would regain their one-goal advantage at the 14:47 mark as Ethan Hamilton’s backhander would beat Tabashniuk top shelf for his 4th of the season. Regina would outshoot the Blazers 15-6 in the first, but trail on the scoreboard 2-1.

Casey Brown would get hauled down on a breakaway attempt and was rewarded a penalty shot, 7:16 into the 2nd frame. Brown would squeeze it through the five-hole of Kabrud for his 2nd of the afternoon and 17th on the season. Brown’s marker would square things up at 2. Ellis Mieyette would then take a cross-ice pass from Steven Steranka and one-time it into the open net for his 8th of the season and the first lead for the home squad at 3-2. With 16 seconds remaining in the 2nd, Dayton Deschamps would beat Taylor Tabashniuk for his 5th on the year, while also bringing the Blazers and C’s to a 3-3 tie heading into the 2nd intermission.

Things would remain knotted up at 3 throughout the 3rd period and into overtime when captain Casey Brown would find twine for the third time on Sunday afternoon, and secure the 4-3 OT win for the Pat Canadians.

With the win, the C’s move to 18-7-0 on the 2023/24 season and will return to action on Tuesday, December 19, when they visit the Swift Current Legionnaires for a 8 o’clock puck drop.
