The Regina Pat Canadians continued their strong start at the 2026 Telus Cup on Tuesday night, battling past the Halifax Macs 4–3 to improve to 2–0 in the tournament.
In what became a penalty-filled affair from start to finish, the Pat Canadians leaned on timely power-play scoring and steady goaltending to secure the win.
Regina opened the scoring late in the first period when Ryker Doka capitalized on a power play at 15:55, finishing a setup from Malaki Martin and Ethan Young. The goal came during a stretch where the Pat Canadians began to turn Halifax’s undisciplined play into momentum.
That momentum carried into the second period. Just 90 seconds in, Ethan Young doubled the lead on another man advantage, converting feeds from Doka and Maddox Schultz to give Regina a 2–0 edge after 40 minutes. Despite consistent pressure from Halifax, goaltender Ben Meyer was sharp, keeping the Macs off the board through two periods.
Halifax made a strong push early in the third, striking twice in a 95‑second span to tie the game. But the Pat Canadians responded emphatically. On their third power-play goal of the night, Schultz uncorked a laser slap shot from the point at 5:29, restoring Regina’s lead. The goal proved to be a turning point.
Just over three minutes later, Eli Heroux added what would stand as the game-winning goal, finishing a play set up by Mahlon Wiley to make it 4–2.
Halifax pulled within one late with an extra attacker, but Meyer stood tall down the stretch, making several key stops as the Macs fired 40 shots on goal. Meyer finished with a 37-save performance and was named Player of the Game for his efforts.
Special teams played a decisive role, with Regina converting 3 of 10 power-play opportunities, while Halifax went 0-for-7.
The Pat Canadians will have little time to rest as they return to action Wednesday at 3:00 PM EDT, facing the Waterloo Wolves as they look to remain unbeaten at the Telus Cup.
