Pat Canadians Open the Series With OT Victory

A loud, early‑arriving crowd of more than 1,400 packed The Co‑operators Centre for Game 1 of the Trans‑Canada Clash rematch. The atmosphere felt like playoff hockey from the opening warmup, and the Pat Canadians delivered with a 3–2 overtime win to take a 1–0 series lead.

Moose Jaw struck first at 16:21 when Ryder Gilroy capitalized on a rebound from a Maxx Fuessel shot. Regina responded with steady pressure and outshot the Warriors, but couldn’t solve Steven Wawryk before the intermission.

The middle frame tightened considerably. Both teams played disciplined, structured hockey, limiting chances and keeping the score locked at 1–0 after two periods.

Moose Jaw doubled the lead at 3:19 on a goal from Marek McIvor, quieting the building.  The goal came off an offensive turnover and the Warriors transitioned the puck up ice quickly before McIvor’s shot made it past Adam Muntain.

Regina answered quickly. At 6:01, Maddox Schultz put the Pat Canadians on the board, taking a pass from Logan Dosenberger and snapping a shot past Wawryk to make it 2–1.  That brought some life back to the building and that buzz stayed for the rest of the night.

The tying goal came with just under five minutes left. Malaki Martin forced a turnover by stripping the puck from a Moose Jaw defender, broke in alone, and beat Wawryk with a nice backhand. A few chances were traded, but Wawryk and Muntain stayed solid and the game headed to OT.

The extra frame didn’t last long.

An early faceoff in the offensive zone led to the winning goal. Schultz won the faceoff clean, and Ethan Young immediately put the puck toward the net. The rebound/clear attempt bounced straight to Mahlon Wiley, who buried his third of the playoffs 12 seconds into OT, sending the bench and the crowd into celebration.

Game 1 to the Pat Cs.  The rest of the series is shaping up to be a great one.  in 4 regular season and one playoff game, these teams have gone to OT 4/5 times.

Game 2 is Monday in Moose Jaw.  Game 3 will be back in Regina on Wednesday night.
