The Regina Pat Canadians continued their perfect start at the Telus Cup with a commanding 7–0 shutout victory over the Waterloo Wolves in Game 3, a win that keeps them in top spot and moves them one step closer to semi-final Saturday.
Goaltender Adam Muntain was once again rock solid for Regina, stopping all 36 shots he faced to earn the shutout and be named Player of the Game. He had a calm, confident presence that proved especially valuable during multiple penalty kills, as Waterloo pushed hard to find its way onto the scoresheet.
Despite the final score, the opening period was tightly contested. Waterloo came out with speed and physicality, testing Regina early and forcing Muntain to make several key saves. Special teams turned the tide midway through the frame when the Pat Canadians capitalized on the power play. Malaki Martin opened the scoring at 8:39, converting a pass from Liam Pue and Maddox Schultz. Regina struck again before intermission, with Pue finishing a play set up by Schultz to give the Pat Cs a 2–0 lead after one.
Regina continued to control the game in the second period, leaning on strong puck management and sustained offensive pressure. Nathan Gardiner extended the lead at 15:13, followed by Brady Vipond late in the period to make it 4–0 heading into the third.
Any remaining suspense was erased early in the final frame. Martin scored his second of the night just under two minutes in, and the power play remained a factor as Maddox Schultz buried Regina’s second man-advantage goal at 7:44. Kysen Rogoza capped the scoring moments later, rounding out a balanced offensive effort that saw contributions throughout the lineup.
Discipline and special teams were again key, as Regina went 2-for-7 on the power play while successfully killing off all six Waterloo opportunities. Muntain’s timely saves during penalty kills ensured Waterloo never gained momentum as the game grew increasingly physical down the stretch.
Regina finished the game with a 43–36 edge in shots, completing a great team effort.
With the win, the Pat Canadians improved to 3–0 at the Telus Cup, with two round robin games remaining. Regina will play on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. EDT vs Chevaliers de Lévis (QUE) in a rematch of last year’s championship final.
