Day 3 Recap – Western Regionals

Day 3 at the Western Regionals delivered exactly what this tournament predicted.  Moose Jaw and Regina wins – but the games were both great hockey and close games.

Moose Jaw 6, Thunder Bay 1

Moose Jaw wasted no time asserting control, striking three times in the opening 16 minutes and never looking back. Jamie Kirwan (1G, 2A) and Tobin Schaefer (2G) led the way for the Warriors.

Game Flow

  • 1:01 – Kirwan opened the scoring, setting the tone.
  • 3:58 – Schaefer doubled the lead off a crisp feed from Kirwan.
  • 16:22 – Schaefer added his second, giving Moose Jaw a commanding 3–0 lead after one.

The second period tightened up, but the Warriors exploded again early in the third.

  • Park scored twice in 35 seconds, pushing the lead to 5–0.
  • Thunder Bay finally broke through at 13:09, but Moose Jaw answered with a late power‑play marker from Deichert to seal the 6–1 win.

Regina 3, Winnipeg 2

Schultz Stays Hot, Pat Canadians Grind Out a Critical Win

In a tight, playoff‑calibre matchup, the Regina Pat Canadians leaned on structure, patience, and timely scoring to edge the Winnipeg Bruins 3–2.

Winnipeg struck first just 2:39 in, but Regina answered quickly on the power play when Schultz buried his fifth of the tournament—and he wasn’t done.

After a scoreless second period marked by disciplined defensive play and strong goaltending at both ends, Regina took control late in the third:

  • 15:00 – Schultz struck again, his sixth of the event, giving Regina their first lead.
  • 16:16 – Martin added insurance with a slick finish off a Hodgins feed.
  • Winnipeg made it interesting with a late power‑play goal at 18:14, but Regina locked it down from there.
  • Ben Meyer made a number of saves late to help preserve the win.

By the Numbers

  • Shots: Regina 43, Winnipeg 25
  • Power Play: Regina 1/2, Winnipeg 1/3
  • Goaltending: Meyer was excellent again, turning aside 23.
  • Attendance: 1,147

Finals are Set
Moose Jaw and Regina will face in a one game playoff to see who advances to the Telus Cup. The Canadians will look to avenge their round robin loss and get to the Nationals for the 2nd straight year.  Moose Jaw will be looking to make their first appearance since they hosted in 2014.
